The 2016 State Team Age Short Course Championships

The 2016 State Team Age Short Course Championships will be held at the Australian Institute of Sport, Canberra 23-26 September. The Championships is the pinnacle age group event in the Short Course calendar in Australia. Jarrod Cross, McKealy Tiller and Seth O’Brien from Alice Springs Swimming Club will be representing the Northern Territory as States and Territories go head-to-head in a team based competition that will see some of the best age group swimmers from around Australia race in individual and relay events to collect points for their respective teams.

Jarrod is still flying high after winning eleven medals in the recent Northern Territory Short Course Championships and being named Swimmer of the Meet. Jarrod capped the meet off with an Alice Springs Swimming Club record in the 50m Butterfly and will be looking for further PBs when he hits the AIS. Jarrod has a busy 11 event program. His events over the three day championship include 50m Freestyle, 50m Butterfly, 50m Backstroke, 200m IM, 100m Back, 200m Breaststroke, 100m Freestyle, 200m Backstroke, 50m Breaststroke and 200m Freestyle.

McKealy also excelled at the Northern Territory Short Course Championships winning eleven medals and breaking twelve Alice Springs Swimming Club records in the process. McKealy's program includes 50m Freestyle, 50m Butterfly, 100m Freestyle, 100m Butterfly, 100m Back, 200m Freestyle and three relay events.

Finishing the recent NT Short Course Championships with ten gold medals from ten events, Seth will be competing in eight events in Canberra: 50m Freestyle, 50m Butterfly , 50m Backstroke, 100m Butterfly, 100m Backstroke, 100m Freestyle, 50m Breaststroke and 200 Freestyle.

Swimmers will enjoy a number of cultural and social events including  the Australian War Memorial, the National Museum of Australian History, shopping, 10 pin bowling and tobogganing at Perisher. The highlight will training with Jim Fowlie Head Coach of Swimming New South Wales and the New South Wales Institute of Sport; coach mentor for the Northern Territory.

2017 Northern Territory State Short Course Team

Jarrod Cross (Alice Springs Swimming Club) and Bella Tinning (Darwin Swimming Club) will captain the 2017 NT Short Course Team.
