Squads, Training and Coaching

Alice Springs Swimming Club training squads are formed in line with Swimming Australia “Multi Year Age Group Swimmer Development Model.” This means that squads are selected according to the following criteria:

•Satisfactory development of skills and technique
•Ability to cope with the volume and intensity of work
•Preparation and desire to work in the program

Alice Springs Swimming Club offers five squads:

Training Timetable

Head Coach Iain Jones will guide you with planning which sessions to attend. If changes to the training schedule occur you will be notified on the ASSC Facebook page.

Monday and Friday mornings: 5.30-7.00am (Junior, Intermediate, Senior and Adult Squads)

Tuesday and Thursday afternoons: 4.30-5.30pm (Mini Squad)

Tuesday and Thursday afternoons: 4.30-6.00pm (Junior, Intermediate and Senior Squads)

 

Coaching Fees Coaching fees are included in your Squad fees. Outstanding Squad fees will prevent swimmers from participating in training.

Pool Entry Pool entry must be paid at the entrance kiosk of the pool. Most families opt for the Multi swim card; however you should contact the pool directly for details and options available.

Missed Training If a swimmer is unable to attend for a period of two weeks or longer, please notify the Head Coach.

Participation in Competition Although not compulsory, swimmers are encouraged to enter Swim Meets to increase swimming confidence and maintain a positive team spirit. 

Training Equipment:
A typical training kit consists of the following

All Junior Squad swimmers are required to have:
• goggles
• mesh bag
• water bottle - all swimmers are required to bring at least one to training. Water is available at the bubblers to refill bottles to keep on pool deck.

All Intermediate Squad swimmers are requiredto have:
• training fins - fully enclosed, not ankle strap style
• mesh bag
• pullboy
• paddles - refer to coach for sizing
• swim caps- swimmers are encouraged to wear a swim cap at training (as a health requirement,  keeps hair out of your eye,  keeps your head warm)
• goggles and spare goggles
• water bottle - all swimmers are required to bring at least one to training. Water is available at the bubblers to refill bottles to keep on pool deck.

All Senior Squad swimmers are required to have:
• short training fins - fully enclosed, not ankle strap style
• mesh bag
• pullboy
• paddles- refer to coach for sizing
